Red Painting Series

Since 2000, Kate Barry has been creating large-scale red abstract paintings using traditional mediums such as oil on canvas, as well as more experimental mediums such as gouache mixed with wine on paper. She started creating these paintings as an undergraduate student at Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver) as a way to explore the relationship between action painting, abstraction and the female body. More recently in her Red Performance series (Vagina Painting: After Kubota) Barry has produced a series of red abstract paintings, using red wine and gouache on canvas.
