RED PAINTINGS

Since 2000, I have been creating large-scale red abstract paintings using both traditional and non-traditional mediums such as, oil on canvas and more experimental mediums such as, gouache and red wine on paper. I started working with painting, abstraction and performance art asĀ an undergraduate student at Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver). In 2009, in addition to my thesis show, “Victorine Meurent” (National Gallery of Canada), I produced a series of small drawings using red wine and gouache on paper, called “Olympia”. From 2017- 2019, I continued this exploration producing several large and smaller works in red based on my performance “Vagina Painting: After Kubota”. This process galvanized a new direction in my work that focuses on performance-painting and performance-drawing.
