Queer Zone is an art event for gender non-conforming, 2SLGBTQ+ and trans folks. It’s a public, collaborative, drawing performance where I use the aesthetics of play to create large-scale drawings in marker on canvas. The idea with the Queer Zone is to decolonialize public space by reclaiming it as safe space. The Queer Zone has different areas where people can contribute to a drawing about queer joy through symbols, writing or through drawing prompts taken from handmade cue cards.

Queer Zone was first performed in Aug 2024 as a response to a callout from the City of Vancouver’s Community Placemaking initiative. We performed Queer Zone at Leg-in-Boot square along the seawall in Vancouver on Coast Salish land.

Queer Zone will be performed again in the summer 2025 in Robson Plaza outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. Please follow me on Instagram for details.
