Queer Zone is an art event for gender non-conforming, 2SLGBTQ+ and trans folks. It’s a public, collaborative, drawing performance where people create a large-scale drawings in marker on canvas. The idea with the Queer Zone is to decolonialize public space by reclaiming it as safe, accessible space. The Queer Zone has different areas where people can contribute to a drawing about queer peace through symbols, writing or by following drawing prompts taken from handmade cue cards.
Queer Zone was first performed in Aug 2024 as a response to a callout for artists from the City of Vancouver’s Placemaking initiative. We performed Queer Zone at Leg-in-Boot square along the seawall in Vancouver on Coast Salish land.
